Newspaper Animals

Trends and ideas are in the constant flux through changing of creative minds. During winter antlers and animal busts were a string in most interior shoots. Now they have evolved to a paper mache bust. The elephant is available on Anthopologie and the deer is a DIY from casasugar. Do you like? Would you make? It could be a fun weekend project!

Daily Dishes

Be you an amazing at home chef or a take out queen your plates get exercised on the regular. Daily dish ware should be a thought out purchase.  Mixing colors with patterns  gives you more options when planning your table. I love this collection from YLiving. The pattern has a great ‘old world’ feel and the muted colors give it a great contemporary vibe.

Questions to ask yourself when on the hunt:

Are these dishes:

  • Versatile: Some crazy color or pattern might catch your eye and give you momentary lust but think of the repeat value. Will you be able to stand that neon pink plate in 6 months?
  • Durable:  Lets face it, between the dishwasher, microwave and guests there is going to be a broken bowl at some point. Find something that will stand a little scrubbing
  • Easy to Replace:  Make sure that your collection isn’t a limited edition. There is nothing more frustrating trying to replace a fallen comrade and discovering that they are no longer made.

Tip: If you find something you adore write down the store, color, model and when you got it in a designated design notebook. Other things that would be helpful in such notebook- paint colors.

New Year – New Tables

In the New Year comes a fresh start. Resolutions come with a vengeance this month. Everyone is still inspired to make the  upcoming months better then the last. A personal goal of mine is to make meals at home more of an event rather than something that is just haphazardly put together. So in the month of January I am going to explore with you the inner workings of tablescapes and all that goes along with it. From late lunches for couples to dinner parties of 10 – we will concur them all.

Some inspirational pictures to get the juices flowing.

Friday Fix-Ups: Mantels Part 2

Traditional  holiday folklore says that ones stocking needs to be hung by the mantel with care – but what if you don’t have one? This was a concerning thought for me when I was little. I’ve rounded up some  alternatives if you don’t have a fireplace.

Hang it 1, Stairs: Although this idea is still limiting to people who have a second floor it does display the stockings nicely.

Hang it 2, Branch: Hang the decoreations on a large branch with many limbs to get a great holiday decoration piece for your wall. Spray paint it silver with glitter for some extra bling. I Love this idea even more if you don’t have a tree. Bring some nature into you house.

Hang it 3, Ladder: This handy contraption may be out from your attempt to decorate your front yard – instead of putting it away prop it up in your living room and make it part of your decor.  This way it will it’s looks like you meant to leave the ladder out instead of forgetting to put it away.

Hang it – no – Place it 4, Boots: Collect all the bright wellies from your family and stack them by the door or tree. This is such cute modernized St. Nicholas tradition.

Where will you be hanging your stockings, my dears? Who still needs to find trinckets to fill them with? … I do!!!
